Spaceman Rescue

A VR game Made with Unity

This game project is a short story-based game experience. In the game, the player will play an astronaut who witnesses his friend hit by an asteroid and then start to rescue him. Because this is an unprepared accident, the player only has two extinguishers to help navigate through the space within a zero-gravity situation.

Ever thought about what it feels like to freely float in space with zero gravity? This game is for you. It introduces to you how it feels to navigate through the space with only two extinguishers that can propel you. It will be a really challenging task for you to move into a space like this. If it’s in real life, you will die if anything goes wrong. However, now you can practice this in VR, and you can try it as many times as you like.

Introducing Spaceman Rescue, a VR game with a short adventure story. You can be a hero, an astronaut, or just an explorer to space. Do whatever you want in space.

Play Mechanics Demo:

The movement in game is based on the direction and amount of you fire your extinguisher. Load the game project in your VR headset. You are immediately placed in a space station. To control and maneuver in the space, use your triggers on both hands to press extinguishers separately. Depending on where the extinguisher aims, you will be pushed in the opposite direction. It’s possible that you will also rotate in the space because of the proper force.

The Making of the Game

To make the movement work more realistic, I programmed this simulation about how the force will act on an object. For me, it’s a challenge and also an enjoyment to make them into simulations. The difficult part is that the force will both push and rotate the player character, and it involves some calculation of rotational force and angular speed.
